Sweden Off Road Tour 1999

Some general info about this great adventure: Sweden Offroad Tour July 3-18 1999 became a success! Lots of cars and people, terrific terrain and weather, one week of heatwave. The tour offered a record breaking of 14 offroad days, 9 of them in a row! Altogether 300 different cars and 600 people from 8 countries took part, nearly a double compared to last year! The participants came from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, England, Switzerland and Belgium. 25 different newspappers, magazines, radio and TV made features, which reached about one million readers/listeners/wievers. Among them Svedish National Television, TV5:s MotorJournal, British Land Rover World and Swedish Wheels Magazine. Also readers reports will be pulished in German and Dutsch offroad magazines.

I participated from Stockholm and all the way up to Kiruna, around 1200 km. My car was a Landrover Defender Tdi, actually brand new, 1999 year model. A sturdy car basically without any normal comfort but incredible capable of traverse very difficult terrain.

Just outside Stockholm in Kungsängen
I am inspecting the car for any possible damages
The Defender passes smoothly along the power lines street
The cool boys from Rindab, the general agency for Hummer, they were testing a military Humvee. When I met them in the bush they were stuck hard in a mud hole. So I actually had to rescue them! They were so happy for that!
Hehe I felt satisfied with the rescue operation, a Landrover Defender vs the mighty Humvee!
A really nice mud road
But the muddy road offered no problem for the Defender
Here I am testing the ability to negotiate a steep slope
On the way up north in Sweden
Climbing the 900 m high mountain Vittjokk near Arvidsjaur
Finally at the summit of the 900 m high mountain Vittjokk near Arvidsjaur
Some rescue operation needed here. We are still near Arvidsjaur
This car is trying to negotiate the sand dunes in Boden, rather far North in Sweden
Of course it got stucked in the sand
Another car stucked in a swamp
I am posing nicely for the photographer!
Here I am enjoying driving in the mighty sand dunes in a military area near Boden
The Defender smoothly crossing the dunes
A steep slope of sand
A nice water filled mud road in the middle of nowhere, can it be better?
Mud, sand or water, no problem for the Defender
Wow, this is so nice and so cool! A real playground for grown up boys… I willingly admit that!
